Welcome Point – Better Together! Final Summary of the NAWA “Welcome to Poland” programme

What happens when you put people, purpose, and passion at the heart of internationalisation?

You get Welcome Point – Better Together! — a two-year, university-wide project that improved how the University of Warsaw welcomes, supports, and empowers international students, doctoral candidates, and staff.

We did it! After two years of intensive work, we’ve successfully completed the “Welcome Point – Better Together!” project at the University of Warsaw, co-funded by NAWA’s “Welcome to Poland” programme. This was one of the largest projects in support of international students and staff ever carried out at UW, and here’s the proof:

What we achieved:

  • 1,061 recorded attendances by international students and doctoral candidates
  • 52 adaptation and development events: Welcome Days, onboarding & integration workshops, legal stay Q&As, soft skills sessions, and cultural walks.
  • 226 recorded attendances by administrative staff members
  • 17 professional trainings on intercultural communication, student support, public speaking, recruitment of foreign applicants, WordPress and social media tools.
  • 18 multilingual brochures revised, 3 brand-new brochures created, fresh layout and content for our online student guide
  • Video campaign: Boost Your Talents with UW6 episodes on sports, skills, and opportunities for international students
  • 2 Welcome Point Pavilions on campus during the critical first weeks (Sep–Oct 2023 & 2024) staffed by trained students & alumni supporting newcomers in 13 languages. Over 800 records of students assisted face-to-face, answering questions, breaking down barriers, making them feel at home from day one.

Why it matters

In total, over 2000 attendances by international students and doctoral candidates were recorded in the project, and countless more benefited through improved systems, communication, and community spirit. But beyond numbers, Welcome Point – Better Together! was about dignity, empathy, and belonging. It was about ensuring every international student knows:

You are not alone. You are seen. And you are part of this university from the very first day!
