On October 19–20, 2018 first of three Cultural Orientation Workshops for international students took place.
11 students from all over the world participated in the event that’s primary purpose was to help them feel more comfortable during everyday situations in Poland, in Warsaw, and at the University itself. It was not only about transmitting useful information but also, and mostly, about participants’ activity and learning through practice.
The main focus was put on communicative skills. Students were encouraged to talk to one another about different and culture-oriented topics, they were put in certain situations they might encouter while staying in Poland. Cultural trainer, Katarzyna Kucharska, made sure that every subject was discussed by the whole group. She also provided the most important information about communication theory (based on Ruth Benedict’s theory of cultural patterns) and national cultures (based on Geert Hofstede’s cultural dimensions theory).
If you are interested in participating in upcoming workshops on cultural orientation, you are welcome to register here.
Cultural Orientation Workshop is organized within the Integrated Development Programme at the University of Warsaw and is funded by European Social Fund.
