UW plays together with the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity

Since 1993, a loud countdown: “3…2… 1… Gramy!” announces the start of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy – WOŚP),  the largest charity event in Poland. The annual nationwide campaign brings people together in a common effort to raise money for medical equipment. The 29th Grand Finale will take place on 31 January and the University of Warsaw will support it
once again.

Each year WOŚP (The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity) chooses different good reasons to raise money for. The subject of each edition is being selected based on social needs. In previous years Orchestra “played” for: children’s cardiac-surgery, improvement of health care for newborns, prevention and early diagnosis of cancer in children. This year’s 29th edition of WOŚP Grand Finale supports pediatric laryngology, otolaryngology and head diagnostics departments.

Usually the day of the Grand Finale is packed to the brim with events, activities, concerts and sporting challenges. The whole community comes together to have fun and raise funds. The streets of Polish cities are filled up with red hearts – the symbol of the Orchestra and at 8 pm people gather for “light to haven” – culmination point of this special day, fireworks show.

This year’s edition will be a little different. Due to the sanitary restrictions activity of the Orchestra shifts mainly to the online auction, concerts and e-Collection Boxes. But again, as years before, the University of Warsaw plays together with the Orchestra and encourages you to join in.

How to do that?

Take part in the auctioning items for the WOŚP on Allegro platform. The University of Warsaw has prepared 5 auctions, during which you can bid on:

  • a photo session in the university premises,
  • a ticket to the Botanical Garden,
  • a Russian language course,
  • the book “Ars et educatio. The artistic culture at the University of Warsaw” (“Ars et educatio. Kultura artystyczna Uniwersytetu Warszawskiego”) with the signatures of rector’s team,
  • and hosting a programme on Radio Kampus.

The auctions will last until 4 February. More info can be read here

Support the volunteer teams and donate money to the e-Collection Boxes prepared by Students Councils of the UW: Faculty of Management and Faculty of Law and Administration
