Scholarships Delivered by the Government of Poland

Here you can find a list of scholarships provided by the Government of Poland. All below-mentioned scholarships (except for Kalinowski Programme) are granted by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (NAWA) – institution, which coordinates state’s activities driving the process of internationalization of Polish academic and research institutions.

Scholarships for the Polish diaspora (Gen. Anders Scholarship Programme) are addressed to young people of Polish origin. The programme promotes Poland as a country of attractive educational opportunities, strengthens level of qualifications in the Polish communities abroad and is an opportunity to learn about culture and history of Poland.

The programme allows young people of Polish origin to study for a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at universities in Poland.

Who can apply?

  • Foreigners with documented Polish origin and holders of the Pole’s Card (Karta Polaka).
    Please note: holders of the Pole’s Card do not need to additionally document their Polish origin. They can apply for: first-cycle (Bachelor’s) degree studies, second-cycle (Master’s) degree studies, long-cycle (uniform Master’s) degree studies.
    Important: for Bachelor’s and long-cycle Master’s programmes, candidates must apply within 2 years of completing their secondary school education.
    For Master’s programmes, they must apply within 2 years of completing their Bachelor’s degree.

  • Dual nationals (those with both Polish and foreign citizenship) who completed their entire secondary education outside Poland may apply for first-cycle and long-cycle Master’s programmes.

Approved candidates may participate in a one-year preparatory course before the beginning of their studies.
Candidates are selected on the basis of the calls for proposals announced on an annual basis.

Konstanty Kalinowski Scholarship Programme is the largest programme in Europe for young Belarusians who have not been able to study in their country because of their political views. It helps Belarusian students to get access to the best Polish universities and promotes European values. The programme offers scholarships for bachelor, master and doctoral studies as well as research internships and postgraduate studies in all fields of studies. The Konstanty Kalinowski Scholarship Programme is coordinated by the Programme Bureau at the Centre for East European Studies at the University of Warsaw.

Zawacka NAWA Programme aims to strengthen international academic cooperation by supporting the arrival of students, doctoral candidates, academics, and researchers to Polish universities and research institutions. It is based on international agreements between Poland and the partner countries (institutions) listed in the programme announcement.

 

Visits are eligible under the Program for the following purposes:

  • Completing full or partial studies at universities supervised by the Minister of Science and Higher Education;
  • Enrolling in a doctoral school;
  • Undertaking a scientific stay, such as a research internship, study visit, collecting materials for academic work, teaching at the host institution, or engaging in other scientific or academic activities related to studies, a doctoral thesis, or research projects.

Stefan Banach Scholarship Programme promotes socio-economic progress of developing countries by raising the level of knowledge and education of their citizens in the form of scholarships for second-degree studies in Polish or in English at Polish universities. It is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange in the form of Polish development aid.

The Programme offers the opportunity to pursue second-cycle (Master’s) full-time studies in Polish or English in the fields of engineering and technical sciences, agricultural sciences, exact sciences, and life sciences. Studies take place at public universities overseen by the Minister of Science and Higher Education.

Participants benefit from:

  • Exemption from tuition fees, and
  • A monthly scholarship from NAWA to cover living costs during the statutory period of study in Poland.

Who Can Apply?

Citizens of the following countries are eligible to apply:
Albania, Angola, Argentina, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Brazil, Colombia, Ethiopia, Georgia, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kosovo, Lebanon, Mexico, Moldova, Montenegro, Nigeria, North Macedonia, Palestine, Peru, the Philippines, Senegal, Serbia, South Africa, Tanzania, Tunisia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.

Additional Study Opportunities

Citizens of the following countries may also apply for second-cycle studies in the fields of humanities and social sciences:
Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.

Note: Philological studies in the applicant’s native language are not eligible.

Preparatory Courses

The Programme may also cover:

  • A preparatory course before studies in Poland (for those studying in Polish), or
  • A summer course in Polish language and culture (for those studying in English), funded by NAWA.

Application and Selection Process

  • Scholarships are awarded based on the substantive assessment of applications, within the country-specific quotas set by the Evaluation Team.
  • Applicants choose their university and field of study from the educational offer of Polish public higher education institutions.
  • This choice must be made when submitting the application and is binding for the entire duration of the Programme.

Poland My First Choice Scholarship Programme is designed to encourage talented young people from selected countries to pursue full-time second-cycle (Master’s) studies at top Polish universities.

 

 

 

What the Programme Offers

  • An opportunity to study full-time at public or private university in any field offered by institutions ranked A or A+ in the latest parametric evaluation (under the supervision of the Minister of Science and Higher Education).
  • A monthly scholarship of PLN 2,000 (approx. EUR 460) from NAWA to cover living expenses during the period of study in Poland, as defined in the Programme Regulations.
  • At public universities, the Programme also covers tuition fees.
  • Studies can be pursued in Polish or in another language, depending on the educational offer.
  • Applicants choose their preferred university and field of study from the offer of Polish higher education institutions and apply directly for the chosen curriculum.

Note: Final decisions on admission and tuition fees are made by the universities themselves.

Important Notes

  • The Programme does not cover fields of study offered by HEIs supervised by ministries other than the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
  • It is implemented as part of a non-competitive project under the Operational Programme Knowledge Education Development, co-financed by the European Social Fund.

NAWA Polish National Agency For Academic Exchange
