We’re proud to share great news from the University of Warsaw!
At the end of January, the Study in Poland conference “Foreign Students in Poland 2026” took place, organised by the Perspektywy Foundation. The event focused on how Polish universities can better welcome and support international students — including effective ways of reaching Polish diaspora students, the role of students and alumni as university ambassadors, and the motivations of young people from the diaspora connected to identity, family ties, and future career plans.
During the conference, awards were also presented in two national competitions:
- Stars of Internationalisation 2026 — honouring people and initiatives strengthening the internationalisation of Polish science
- Interstudent 2026 — recognising outstanding international students and doctoral students in Poland
We’re delighted that among the winners were members of the UW community:
- Research Star 2026: Prof. Piotr Sankowski (Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics; Director of IDEAS Research Institute) — awarded for consistent efforts to build sustainable international research ecosystems and strengthen the international visibility of Polish research.
- Interstudent 2026: Jeremy Caldeira (USA), PhD student at the Doctoral School of Social Sciences — recognized for combining excellent academic achievements with research and social engagement. He conducts research on forced migration and the situation of Ukrainian refugees in Europe.
Congratulations to both awardees!
