Summary of the programme — Warsaw University for Ukraine

We are proud to have been part of the University of Warsaw’s wonderful initiative — “Warsaw University for Ukraine”.

As part of the programme, which lasted more than a year, the University assisted more than 8,000 people coming to Poland from Ukraine after 24 February 2022. On 15 December, a ceremony was held to sum up the more than year-long initiative, which involved nearly thirty units of the University of Warsaw. Among them was the Welcome Point.

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022, many individuals and groups offered assistance to those fleeing armed attacks. Support initiatives also emerged at the University of Warsaw. The various forms of assistance at the university were brought together, coordinated and included in the comprehensive support programme “Warsaw University for Ukraine”.

As part of activities lasting more than a year (implementation of the programme began on 15 October last year), a total of more than 8,000 people in need were supported. Children, secondary school and university students, as well as adults and senior citizens, took part in, among other things, adaptation meetings, language courses, communication workshops or entrepreneurship classes.

On 15 December, a conference summing up the programme was held with the participation of the authorities of Warsaw University and the City of Warsaw, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps.

During the meeting, diplomas were presented to the trainers, lecturers, and administrative staff involved in the UW for Ukraine programme, as well as to the course participants themselves.

As part of the programme, Welcome Point organised more than 40 different activities. We offered film screenings, art workshops, meetings about the University of Warsaw for people interested in studying at our university, a speakers’ club, literary meetings and much more. We have managed to create a small community around our activities.

We’re quite happy to have been part of such a great initiative!
