The 31st Grand Finale of the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (WOŚP, Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy) will be launched on 29th January and the University of Warsaw will “play” in fundraising to purchase medical equipment that is used in treating sepsis patients.
WHAT IS GREAT ORCHESTRA OF CHRISTMAS CHARITY?
The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (known as ‘WOŚP – Wielka Orkiestra Świątecznej Pomocy’) is one of Poland’s biggest non-profit charity organisations which has raised billions of złoty to purchase medical equipment for the Polish healthcare system since it was founded in 1993 by Jerzy Owsiak.
Once a year Great Orchestra’s Grand Finale events take place in every city of Poland with lots of musical bands playing for free at different festival sites and with a lot of various sport activities and challenges. The event annually takes place on the second Sunday of January.
On the day of Grand Finale, Polish cities are full of people who happily share their kindness and receive a heart-shaped sticker from volunteers. The heart-shaped sticker is a symbol of Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity.
Every year Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity changes the fundraising theme. This year the theme is We Want to Beat Sepsis! The Grand Finale for All – The Little and Big Ones!
The major goal of the approaching 31st Grand Finale is to purchase the medical tools necessary for the early diagnosis of the bacterial infection that causes sepsis. The Foundation will buy medical supplies for all patients in need, regardless of age, for the first time in the Orchestra’s history. The University of Warsaw is taking part in fundraising, would you like to join in with us?
