It is important to remember that each student coming to the University of Warsaw for short-term studies will be asked to show proof of health insurance upon arrival.<\/p>\n<p>International students and academics are strongly advised to purchase third-party liability insurance and accident insurance in their home countries.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Are you an EU citizen?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><strong>EU citizens<\/strong> are eligible for free health services in Poland, providing that they present a valid <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/social\/main.jsp?catId=559\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>European Health Insurance Card<\/strong><\/a>.<a href=\"https:\/\/welcome.uw.edu.pl\/content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/EHICEKUZ.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[50]\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-12646 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/welcome.uw.edu.pl\/content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/EHICEKUZ.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"5334\" height=\"3000\" \/><\/a><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-12561\" src=\"https:\/\/welcome.uw.edu.pl\/content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Grafika-sfinansowana-ze-srodkow-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"41\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>EU citizens without health insurance in their countries of residence and non-EU citizens can sign a health insurance agreement with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfz.gov.pl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Health Fund<\/a> (NFZ \u2014 Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia) or with one of the private clinics.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Are you a non-EU citizen?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>You can sign the insurance agreement with the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfz.gov.pl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Health Fund<\/a><\/strong> and pay monthly contributions to the <strong>NFZ<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2712 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/welcome.uw.edu.pl\/content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/nfz_logo_C_kolor.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"60\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Do you have the Pole&#8217;s CARD (Karta Polaka) or Polish descent\u00a0confirmed by a Consulate?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If yes, you are entitled to be insured by the University on the Polish Government cost.<\/p>\n<p>To be insured, you have to sign a contract with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfz.gov.pl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Health Fund<\/a> (NFZ &#8211; Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia) and submit a copy of the contract to the <a href=\"https:\/\/bpm.uw.edu.pl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Student Welfare and Support Office<\/a>\u00a0along with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the application form (printed, filled in and signed),<\/li>\n<li>a copy of the Pole&#8217;s Card or certificate of the Polish origin,<\/li>\n<li>confirmation of student status (issued by the student&#8217;s office of the faculty)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>If you are a non-EU citizen who has neither the Pole&#8217;s Card nor a Polish descent, <\/strong>you are also obliged to have insurance during the whole duration of your stay in Poland. Otherwise, you will be obliged to pay for all health services on your own.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Note that relevant bilateral inter-government agreements may influence one&#8217;s status in Poland regarding health care issues. For example, citizens of <strong>Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Russia, and Serbia<\/strong> have the right to free medical services in case of emergency.<\/p>\n<p>You can insure yourself either in NFZ or in one of numerous private insurance companies.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Ho<\/strong><strong style=\"font-size: inherit;\">w can I get NFZ insurance?<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/welcome.uw.edu.pl\/content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/NFZ-ensurance.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[50]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-12620 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/welcome.uw.edu.pl\/content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/NFZ-ensurance.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"8000\" height=\"4500\" \/><\/a><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12561 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/welcome.uw.edu.pl\/content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Grafika-sfinansowana-ze-srodkow-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"41\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Step 1<\/strong>. Documents which you need:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u2014\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/welcome.uw.edu.pl\/content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/wniosek_o_objecie_dobrowolnym_ubezpieczeniem_zdrowotnym-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>2 application forms for National Health Fund health insurance (PDF) cover from here<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 your passport with a current visa or residence permit<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 your Student ID Card,<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 the confirmation of the student status (issued by the student office of your faculty)<\/p>\n<p>\u2014 a document confirming that you are resident in Poland (e.g. dorm certificate, residence card, rental agreement, etc.)<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Step 2<\/strong>. Go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfz.gov.pl\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Health Fund<\/a> (NFZ \u2014 Narodowy Fundusz Zdrowia) at (Cha\u0142ubi\u0144skiego 8, 00-613 Warszawa) in the main hall where you can sign the ageement with the NFZ.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Step 3<\/strong>. Fill in the <a href=\"https:\/\/welcome.uw.edu.pl\/content\/uploads\/2020\/12\/zza.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ZUS ZZA form (PDF)<\/a> (with the insurance code 24 10 XX), and submit it to an appropriate <a href=\"https:\/\/lang.zus.pl\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Polish Social Insurance Institution (ZUS)<\/a> branch or inspectorate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The form can be printed and delivered in person, or sent by post to the branch or the <a href=\"https:\/\/lang.zus.pl\/en\/about-zus\/the-structure-of-zus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Polish Social Insurance Institution (ZUS)<\/a> inspectorate in the competent district. The cost of insurance for international students who are not citizens of the EU is around 11 EUR per month (c. 55,80 PLN).<\/p>\n<p><b>It is possible to pay health insurance for 3 months in advance. If this is the case, remember to submit the ZUS DRA declarations for 3 months to the nearest ZUS office. This is recommended for those applying for a temporary residence permit. The insurance must be valid for the entire period of stay in Poland, as well as during the submission of documents in legalisation proceedings. Declarations can be submitted in person at a ZUS office, after paying for insurance (by the 20th of the month), or via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zus.pl\/ezus\/logowanie\">ePUAP platform<\/a> (To set up an online account for administrative matters, you require a PESEL number. However, it still might be useful as this is a unique identification number for all Polish citizens and many residents, so we highly recommend applying for it.<\/p>\n<h3>Private insurance<\/h3>\n<p>You can decide to insure yourself privately. You can choose a cheap one where you have access only to basic services, such as visits to a general practitioner and some specialist doctors.
