It means that shopping malls, government offices, banks, and public institutions are closed. It is important to bear in mind that the public transport operates according to the weekend timetable.<\/p>\n<h2>Public holidays<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>1<sup>st<\/sup> January \u2013 New Year\u2019s Day \u2013 it marks the beginning of a new year.<\/li>\n<li>6<sup>th<\/sup> January \u2013 Epiphany \u2013 it commemorates the three wise kings\u2019 visit to the infant Jesus.<\/li>\n<li>*Easter Sunday and Easter Monday \u2013 they are \u00a0considered the most important holidays for Christians who celebrate Jesus Christ\u2019s resurrection.<\/li>\n<li>*Whit Sunday \u2013 seven weeks after Easter Sunday, Christians celebrate the sending of the Holy Spirt to Jesus\u2019s disciples.<\/li>\n<li>1<sup>st<\/sup> May \u2013 Labour Day \u2013 people celebrate the achievements of workers. This day has its origins in the labour union movement.<\/li>\n<li>3<sup>rd<\/sup> May \u2013 Constitution Day \u2013 it marks the enactment of the Polish Constitution, the first in Europe and second in the world, which came into effect on 3<sup>rd<\/sup> May, 1791.<\/li>\n<li>*Corpus Christi \u2013 this holiday is always celebrated on the Thursday after Trinity Sunday. On that day, one can observe street processions of Christians.<\/li>\n<li>15<sup>th<\/sup> August \u2013 Day of Assumption and Polish Armed Forces Day \u2013 it is both a religious and public holiday commemorating the Battle of Warsaw in 1920 against Soviet Russia. On that day, in Warsaw, there is a large military parade in the city centre.<\/li>\n<li>1<sup>st<\/sup> November \u2013 All Saints\u2019 Day \u2013 people visit cemeteries showing their respect and remembrance for their ancestors.<\/li>\n<li>11<sup>th<\/sup> November \u2013 Independence Day \u2013 it marks the independence of the Polish state after 123 years of rule by Austria, Russia, and Prussia as a consequence of three partitions in 1772, 1793, and 1795.<\/li>\n<li>25<sup>th<\/sup> and 26<sup>th<\/sup> December \u2013 the first and second days of Christmas commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>* movable dates<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>National holidays In Poland, like in every country there are some non-working days in a year.
