Miasteczko na styku kultur – Cultural Hot Spot UW [coverage]

Our Miasteczko na styku kultur – Cultural Hot Spot UW is already behind us. Even though it was the first edition (of, hopefully, many more to come) of this event, we are very proud to announce that it was a great success.

We launched at 10:30 am when first debate (Multiculturalism in Canada, Swizterland, and Australia) started. Half hour later food-trucks arrived and not so long after you could see long queues for Korean, Georgian, Chechen food, and donuts. At 12:00 culture area begun with more than 50 of our volunteers representing 12 different countries. For almost 6 hours they were presenting their fascinating cultures to us in multiple ways, through: food, clothes, music, mini-workshops, and language. Visitors had an opportunity to fold their own origami, write their names in Chinese, play traditional Kazakh instrument – dombra, taste cuisine from every corner of the Earth, see traditional belly dance, and much, much more.

First and foremost, we would like to thank our tireless volunteers (both international and Polish) without whom this event could not have happened. Not only did they put a lot of work in preparing all the presentations, entertainments, and delicious food, but also they made it through the whole day with constant smile on their faces. Working with you was a true pleasure.

We also would like to thank all participants of debate panels, namely: Adam Koniuszewski, Miłka Raulin, Go’n’Act Foundation, Hanna Rubinkowska, Agata Bareja Starzyńska, Małgorzata Religa, George Yacoub, and Jacek Pałasiński.

Word of gratitude goes also to every person who helped make Miasteczko na styku kultur a real thing, especially to the employees of other UW’s units, thanks to whom the organization of the event became much easier.

Details about all activities and the programme of the event can be found here.
